The first Wednesday in February is World Read Aloud Day, so the fourth graders in Mrs. Palmer's class at the Hansen School celebrated with a virtual visit from author Rajani LaRocca, who read from her award winning book Red, White, and Whole!
The South School celebrated National Puzzle Day with several types of puzzles set up around the cafeteria, giving students a chance to do some brain exercises, while having fun with classmates. There were traditional jigsaw puzzles, Jenga blocks, 3D puzzles, a station to make your own puzzle, and more! “Scientists have discovered that when we work on a jigsaw puzzle, we utilize both sides of the brain, improving memory, cognitive function and problem solving skills in the process,” the National Puzzle Day website states. Wilkins School kindergarteners recently learned about the Chinese New Year. They are pictured here with the dragon puppets they made!

Third grade students at the Wilkins School met with their kindergarten buddies to share the books they had both recently written. These partnerships are one of the social emotional learning initiatives at the Wilkins.
Here some pictures from a recent "Flashlight Friday" in Mrs. Russell’s 1st grade class at the South School! The students worked in partners to go on a digraph hunt using their flashlights. It was a fun review activity on a dark and dreary day!
As a way to inspire students to study their multiplication facts with a fun challenge, the Hansen School had an optional math competition for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Great job by all of the students who took part in this friendly competition! And, congratulations to the winners of the multiplication facts challenge, pictured here!
Gibbons School kindergarteners in Mrs. Criscuolo's class are learning about the superpowers they have to help them read!
“The Whalemobile” visited the Dawe School! The Whalemobile is a life-sized inflatable whale named Nile, modeled after a real humpback whale that can be seen off the coast of Massachusetts. The inflatable whale was set up in the Dawe School gymnasium, with classes visiting it throughout the 2-day visit. Students could even go inside the inflatable structure to get a look at what a whale’s interior would look like! Students enjoyed getting up close to Nile, going inside, and learning about whales during their time with the Whalemobile.
The Wilkins School Student Council, under the direction of advisor Mrs. Pearl, has organized a coat drive to help keep people in the local area warm this winter season. The Student Council members are pictured here in front of the donation bin at the Wilkins. Student Council members went to each class to announce the coat drive and encourage their fellow students (and school community) to donate. They have collected almost 100 new or gently worn coats. The coats will be given to Anton's Cleaners to be cleaned and distributed to those in need. Keep up the good work!

The Gibbons School recently organized a food drive to give back to members of our community. A group of Gibbons students are pictured here with some of the items that were donated to the Stoughton Food Pantry. Keep up the good work!
Students at the Dawe School are enjoying working with fiber in art class! They are learning skills like how to thread a needle and tie a knot, how to create a running and whipstitch, and various weaving techniques.
The Stoughton High Class of 2023 recently held its "Oscar Knight". Students dressed in formalwear, walked a red carpet and were interviewed, and senior class yearbook superlatives were announced Academy Awards style!
