Routine Screenings
Routine Screenings
Every year, the nursing staff conducts routine screenings in accordance with Massachusetts General Law. In the early fall, hearing screenings will be done for students in grades K-3, 8 and 10; and vision screenings will be done for students in grades K-5, 8 and 10. All students in grades 5-9 will be screened for scoliosis. You will be notified of any findings that may require follow up with your child’s physician. All students in grades 1, 4, 7, and 10 will have their height, weight and BMI percentage done. If you would like those results, please contact your school nurse.
In compliance with the new Massachusetts House Bill No. 4056, SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) has been conducted for all 8th and 10th grade students since the school year 2017/18. More information is sent home in a separate letter to explain this new MADPH mandated screening. You can also get more information in the OMS and SHS Student Handbooks, on the OASIS website, or through the school nurse.
If you would prefer that your child not participate in any of these screenings, we ask that you please send a note to your school nurse identifying which screenings you want your child exempt from.
