The Stoughton High cheerleading team competed at the Fall Cheerleading South Regional Championship on November 17 at Franklin High School. SHS qualified for regionals following their performance at the Hockomock League Championship meet (the team is pictured here at the Hockomock Championship on November 10).

Congratulations to Stoughton High senior Valdimar DePina for qualifying for the MIAA cross country state championship meet! Valdimar qualified for the state championship after a solid showing at the MIAA Division 2 cross country tournament. SHS boys cross country coach Dave Barbato notes that Valdimar is just the second Stoughton High runner to qualify for this meet this century and he is also just the sixth individual runner to get to this meet in school history.

The Stoughton High girls soccer team defeated Amherst-Pelham 3-0 in a MIAA Division 2 girls soccer tournament game on November 3 at SHS! Makenzie O’Connor, Bianca Casna, and Lauren Mitchell scored the Stoughton goals. The team is pictured here after the win. With the win over #38 seed Amherst-Pelham in the preliminary round of the tournament, the #27 seed Black Knights advanced to play at #6 Somerset Berkley in the round of 32 on November 6. The game was scoreless going into the half, before Somerset Berkley scored twice in the second half. Stoughton cut the lead to 2-1, but Somerset Berkley was able to hang on for the win. Congratulations to the SHS girls soccer team for their success this season and making a postseason run!

The Stoughton High volleyball team ended the week with back to back sweeps, defeating Foxboro 3-0 on Thursday and Seekonk 3-0 on Friday! Against Foxboro, Reagan Lewis led the offense with 11 kills and 2 aces while Jina Kim had 7 kills and 4 aces. Aly Joseph had 6 kills and 20 assists. Emma Byrne and Makaila Graffeo played well at the net with 2 blocks each. Against Seekonk, Stoughton was led by its seniors on senior night. Reagan Lewis had 11 kills and 4 aces, Emma Byrne had 5 aces, Amy Nguyen had 5 aces, Dhruvi Patel had 4 aces, and Aly Joseph had 4 aces.

Never get tired of the picturesque sunsets that can be seen from Veterans Memorial Stadium at Stoughton High! These photos are from the start of the SHS boys varsity soccer team's recent game against North Attleboro . The Black Knights won 3-1, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes of action (goals by Cameron Wilson and Alex Kozak) to take control of the game.

The Stoughton High boys cross country team started off the season with a win over North Attleboro on Tuesday! The 27-28 victory (lower score wins), was Stoughton's first since 2020. Valdimar DePIna finished third overall, followed by Jacob Marques in fourth, and Will Borges in fifth. Quentin Simon came in seventh, and captain James Bettencourt came in eighth cementing the Stoughton win. If James did not edge the North Attleboro runner who placed ninth, North would have won. Meanwhile, the Stoughton girls cross country team lost to North Attleboro on Tuesday. Leah McCarty led Stoughton, finishing third overall. Senior Angie Berry finished fifth and Kirsten Alexson placed eighth for the Black Knights.

The Stoughton High girls varsity soccer team is off to a 2-0 start this season! The season started off with a 2-1 win over Sharon last week, followed by a 4-0 win over North Attleboro on Tuesday. The Black Knights have been led by Emma Tran with 2 goals, Makenzie O'Connor with 2 goals, Morgan O'Connor with 1 goal, Bianca Casna with 1 goal, Lauren Mitchell with strong play on defense, and Morgan Cook with strong play in the midfield. Goalie Molly Fox has only allowed one goal and recorded her first shutout of the season against North Attleboro.

The Stoughton High varsity field hockey team traveled to Milford on Tuesday and came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory! Raegan Costello and Lauren Price scored the Stoughton goals, both assisted by Neala Garrels. Coach Caitlin Jamiel credits Grace Weisenberger for excellent play in goal, while Lauren Price and Casey Groppi controlled the game offensively for the Black Knights. Stoughton is now 2-1 on the season.

The SHS boys tennis team defeated Taunton 5-0 for its second win of the season! Philip Jordache won at first singles, Paul Medeiros won at second singles, and Aadil Khond won at third singles. Thomas Chaw and Anthony Maylack won at first doubles and Irtaza Khalil and Riwaz Shrestha won at second doubles.

The SHS girls lacrosse team picked up its third win of the season defeating Southeastern 17-1! Morgan Groppi had 7 goals and 4 assists; Amanda Reid had 5 goals, 2 assists and 11 draw control wins; Lauren Mitchell had 1 goal and 1 assist; Hazel McBurney, Olivia Joumaa, Jillian Falcione, and Nicole Reid each had 1 goal; Casey Groppi had 2 assists; Katrina Varnum had 5 saves in net.

The Stoughton High boys track team defeated Canton 93-43 on April 23 to improve to 3-0 on the season! There were multiple individual winners for the SHS: Valdimar DePina won both the 400m hurdles and the 2 mile; Carlens Elas won the 200m and the 400m and placed third in the long jump; Alex Huynh won the 110m hurdles, the long jump, and was second in the shot put; Ethan Jimenez won the shot put and finished first in the discus; Jack Barbato won both the mile and the 800m race; Brandon Madden won the 100m and placed second in the 200m dash. The SHS girls track team narrowly lost to Canton 69-67. The record for the team is now 1-2. Senai Whigham won both the 100 and the 200 meter races and placed second in the long jump; Leah McCarty won the shot put and the discus; Belleya Franck won the high jump and the hurdle race; Lindsey Mitchell won the 800m; Maya Ashu finished first in the javelin; Janesha Andre placed second in the javelin and third in the 100m dash.

The Stoughton High baseball team went 3-0 over the April vacation week. The second and third victories came at the end of the week. The SHS baseball team defeated Brockton 15-6 on April 19. Patrick McLaughlin picked up his first win on the mound. Dom Belle had 3 hits and 3 runs batted in, Liam Dunn had 2 hits and 5 RBI, Drew Geaney had 2 hits and 1 RBI, and Gavin Alexson, Cole Franey, and Hunter Malkin also drove in a run. On April 20, the Black Knights beat Oliver Ames 3-1 for the team’s second win in as many days. James Spector had a complete game on the mound, striking out 6 batters. Geaney and Franey each drove in a run for SHS.

Congratulations to Stoughton High boys basketball players Liam Pearl and Anthony Alessi for being included in the HockomockSports.com boys basketball season awards! Pearl, a senior and a captain of the team, was named to the Hockomock Sports all-defensive team. Alessi, a sophomore, was named to the Hockomock Sports all-underclassmen team. Big milestone for the Stoughton High girls lacrosse program! Congratulations to the SHS varsity girls lacrosse team for recording its first ever win at the varsity level! Stoughton beat Taunton 19-8 April 11 on the turf field at SHS. Morgan Groppi had 7 goals and 2 assists. Amanda Reid had 6 goals and 8 draw control wins. Casey Groppi had 2 goals, Neala Garrels had 2 goals, Lauren Mitchell had 1 goal and 1 assist, Hazel McBurney had 1 goal and 1 assist, and goalie Katrina Varnum had 14 saves in net. The Stoughton High boys tennis team beat Canton 3-2 on April 10 in dramatic fashion. Senior captain Aadil Khond won a third set tiebreaker to decide the match. Both SHS doubles teams, Anthony Maylack/Thomas Chaw and Riwaz Shrestha/Irtaza Khalil, also won. It was the first team victory for SHS boys tennis since the 2022 season.
