During "Start With Hello Week" at the O'Donnell Middle School, the OMS recognized "upstanders" - people who use their voice to reduce social isolation, making others feel seen by reaching out and helping others. Students and staff were encouraged to give an "upstander" gram or certificate to show appreciation to the students in the OMS community who reach out and help others. Here are some of the OMS students recognized for being "upstanders"! ("Start With Hello Week" took place from September 19-23 and is a national campaign that the OMS participated in, "dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth.")

A trio of 8th grade band students performed during morning arrival to welcome students as they filed into into the O'Donnell Middle School on Tuesday, September 20. This special performance was part of "Start With Hello" week at the O'Donnell Middle School. The OMS is participating in this national campaign, which takes place from September 19-23 this year. The "Start with Hello" movement is "dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth." The OMS has activities planned throughout the week to celebrate "kindness, connection, inclusion, empathy, and belonging." 8th grade students Terrence Tran (tenor saxophone), Chloe Hannaford (baritone saxophone), and Neissa Francois (alto saxophone) did a great job performing for their peers! Seventh graders at the O'Donnell Middle School had their eggs from Casey Farm in Rhode Island delivered on March 14. Students in Mrs. Benitez's TLC class got a special presentation from Farmer Tom who introduced them to the Dominique and Rhode Island Red chickens that will be hatching in just 21 days (and even brought a live chicken for the presentation)! Throughout the next few weeks all seventh grade students will be learning about the genetics and growth and development of these organisms while the eggs are stored in an incubator getting ready to hatch!

Congratulations to the O'Donnell Middle School students who won the middle school division of the Stoughton Talent Showcase! Travis Remy came in first place in the middle school division, Kostas Giatrakos came in second, and Max Arroyo came in third. The Stoughton Talent Showcase was held March 11 at the SHS auditorium. It was an entertaining night showing off the amazing talents of our own Stoughton Public Schools students with 21 acts split between three divisions - elementary school, middle school, and high school. The judges did not have an easy task deciding on the winners!

The SPS Fine Arts Department held its annual Pajama Concert last week featuring bands from SHS and OMS. Students in the OMS 8th grade band, the OMS Jazz Band, the SHS Concert Band and the SHS Wednesday Jazz Band performed while wearing their pajamas in what was a fun night with a more casual atmosphere than a traditional school concert.

On Mondays, members of the Stoughton High varsity wrestling team work with O'Donnell Middle School students as part of an intramural wrestling program. Thank you to the varsity wrestlers who take a little extra time to give back to the community, and help teach many enthusiastic young potential wrestlers! Coach Helfrich, Iverson, and Gallan see a lot of potential in this group of OMS students, and are excited to help teach them about the sport of wrestling.
